FanoutFox reads your own ChatGPT and Perplexity sessions. You get the searches it ran, the pages it fetched, who it cited and who it mentioned. It's free and nothing leaves your browser.
This tool is a goldmine in order to understand the inner workings of ChatGPT. A local working prompt tool that gives insights that you can take action.
Wowsers, this is cool stuff indeed. Lots in there, amazing work.
Absolutely superb. Game changing for modern SEOs.
This extension is fantastic. I like that it does everything fully locally, and that I can look at my collections of conversations all together and track mentions across them, like having a little local prompt-tracking tool for free.
ChatGPT and Perplexity don't run your keyword. They rewrite it into their own searches, fetch pages you never see, and work out on their own who gets mentioned.
Rank tracking measures a results page your buyers open less every year. Position three is worth nothing if the answer never mentions you.
FanoutFox reads the answer's own data. You get the queries it wrote, the pages it fetched, the ones it cited and the brands it mentioned.
There's nothing to create, configure or learn. It reads the sessions you already have.
Add it from the Chrome Web Store or install it by hand. Then use ChatGPT the way you normally would. There's nothing to configure.
Comparisons, recommendations, best-tool-for-the-job questions. The ones people type before they buy something.
You get the searches, the sources, who was cited, who was mentioned, and where you came out. One click.
The DevTools work from the teardowns, turned into six views you can act on.
Every search the engine actually ran. The rewrites, the angles it took, and the intent it decided you had.

Dozens of pages get fetched and only a handful get cited. You see which side of that line you were on.

Most buyers never click the citation, but they do read the text around it. You get the exact sentence that mentioned you or a rival.

Every step from your question to the answer, in order, with the model's own words about why it picked a source.

On shopping questions a product card and a passing mention aren't the same win. You see which one you got.

Pin an answer, run the same prompt next week, then compare the two. You see who entered, who dropped out, and who moved from mentioned to cited.

Most SEO tools want your data on their servers. This one doesn't have a server.
Reads only your own ChatGPT and Perplexity sessions. Nothing else.
Captures save in your browser as you go and are never uploaded.
Your ChatGPT token is used once and discarded. Perplexity needs no token at all.
Two optional lookups make the only outbound calls, a domain rating and Reddit thread stats. You can switch both off.
There's no account to create and nothing here tracking you.
Uninstall it and every trace goes with it.
Read the research in how ChatGPT actually picks sources, the follow-up teardown and how Perplexity picks its sources.

Yes. There's no paid tier or trial counting down. I built it because I wanted it to exist.
Both work and both are the same code. The Chrome Web Store is one click and it updates itself, so start there. The catch is that ChatGPT changes its internal format often, sometimes twice in a week, and every store update waits in Google's review queue for a day or three. When a format change breaks captures I can put the fix on the download page the same day. The store copy catches up later. Keep that page bookmarked for those days.
No. It all runs on your machine. Captures sit in your browser's own storage and are never uploaded. Two optional lookups make the only outbound calls, Ahrefs domain ratings and Reddit thread stats, and you can switch both off.
ChatGPT and Perplexity. Perplexity reads the same way, the fan-out, the sources and the citations, and it also returns per-source trust notes that nothing else surfaces. The Compare view puts the same prompt side by side across both engines. Gemini is next. One capture format covers all of them, so your saved sessions carry over.
Generative Engine Optimisation. It's the work of getting your brand picked, cited and mentioned inside AI answers instead of ranked on a results page. It's what SEO becomes when the answer replaces the results page.
No. On ChatGPT it uses the session token your browser already holds, once, to fetch your own conversation, then throws it away. It's never stored or sent anywhere. On Perplexity it reads no token at all, because it only watches the answer your browser is already receiving.
No. It does nothing at all until you click the fox. It never intercepts, proxies or changes your conversations.
Yes. Capture the answers for a client's queries, pin them, run them again later and compare who entered or dropped out. Plenty of people use it as a light GEO rank tracker across several client brands.
