Privacy Policy

FanoutFox is a Chrome extension that helps you understand how AI search engines answer questions. It is designed to keep everything on your own device.

What FanoutFox does with data

• It reads the content of your own current ChatGPT conversation (the answer text and the sources the answer used) to analyse how that answer selected its sources.
• To read your current conversation, FanoutFox uses the ChatGPT session already active in your browser. It reads the session token only to make that single request to ChatGPT's own service. The token is used within one function and is never stored and never sent anywhere else.
• The results of each analysis, and your settings (the domains and competitors you choose to track), are saved locally in your browser using Chrome storage.

What leaves your browser

By default, nothing about your conversations leaves your browser. There is no FanoutFox account and no FanoutFox server.

Two optional features make requests to third parties, and only these:

• Domain Rating (on by default, toggleable): FanoutFox sends the domain names shown in an analysis to Ahrefs' free public endpoint to display a score. Only domain names are sent.
• Reddit thread stats (off by default, you switch it on): when you click to check a thread, FanoutFox requests public statistics for that thread's URL directly from reddit.com.

FanoutFox collects no analytics, uses no trackers, and shares no data with us or anyone else.

Limited Use

FanoutFox's use of information received from ChatGPT and any Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is used only to provide the single, user-facing purpose described above. It is not sold or transferred to third parties, and it is not used for advertising or creditworthiness.

Your control

All stored data lives in your browser. You can delete it any time from the extension's settings (Clear all data), or by removing the extension.
